We're eager to greet 2017.
But before we do, here are a few highlights, plus 5 new projects we're very excited about.
The first completed project to come out of our Kickstart Diversity Program, Tahir Jetter's HOW TO TELL YOU'RE A DOUCHEBAG premiered at Sundance in January 2016 and sold to BET.
Our SXSW panel - 'Breaking into TV in the Digital Age' - was a max capacity. Joining us were Laura Turner Garrison (Vimeo) and Kesila Childers (Bunim Murray).
We took our first trip of the year to Playa Langosta, Costa Rica with the team from WEEKEND WARRIORS, including producer Noah Lang and director Sam Jones. Find out more about the project HERE.
Big Vision co-production EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL launched into production in the spring of 2016. The all-female team inspired us at every turn.
We held our third Distribution Lab this June in NYC. Participating companies included The Weinstein Company, IFC, The Discovery Channel, Vimeo, FilmRise, Zeitgeist Films, Magnolia Pictures, and more.
The Big Vision team officially came on board to produce POWER OF PEARL, an environmental documentary currently in post production.
After our Fall Distribution Lab, the Big Vision team came on board to EP narrative feature THE LIGHT OF THE MOON from writer/director Jessica Thompson. We're looking forward to a big 2017 festival premiere!
We announced our latest program that supports TV and New Media Creators. We are selecting 10-15 creators to join us for 3 exciting months of pitch opportunities in 2017.
In September 2016, we joined the POWER OF PEARL team in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to edit, brainstorm, and enjoy the great outdoors (and drink tons of wine).
By the end of the year it became clear that we needed a rebrand for 2017 to reflect how Big Vision Empty Wallet (our incubator) and Big Vision Creative (our production company) function together to create great work.
We chose travel series STRAIGHT TRIPPIN' from creator Andia Winslow and producer Monique Walton for our last incubator in Costa Rica - a travel series that follows three friends, all looking to hit the "pause" button on life to venture into the wilderness. Against the backdrop of the most gorgeous landscapes in the country, they form a bond that will prepare them for whatever the natural world throws their way.
The 2016 Election depressed us, then motivated us. We're more inspired than ever to support diverse voices. Stories from unique perspectives deserve to be told and are a necessity to bring forth understanding.
